Our Mission, Vision, and Purpose

The Herman Project exists to address a persistent gap in prostate cancer awareness.

Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers affecting men in the UK, yet awareness of risk, early indicators, and when to seek support remains inconsistent. This is particularly true in environments where routine health engagement is limited and while national screening is not offered.

The Herman Project provides clear, practical, and accessible awareness education designed to support earlier understanding and earlier action. Our training is designed for non-clinical audiences and focuses on awareness and prevention rather than diagnosis. Sessions are evidence-informed, structured, and delivered in an engaging, respectful way that is appropriate for a wide range of audiences.

Prostate cancer is often diagnosed late, not because people ignore their health, but because early symptoms can be unclear, misunderstood, or absent altogether. In many cases, individuals are unsure when concerns are significant enough to raise or when it is appropriate to seek medical advice. In the absence of routine screening, awareness becomes a critical tool. By improving understanding of risk and early indicators, people are better equipped to make informed decisions, ask questions earlier, and seek reassurance or advice at an appropriate time.

Prostate cancer affects over 50,000 men in the UK each year, with around 1 in 8 men diagnosed in their lifetime. Risk further increase with age, family history, and ethnicity, with Black men facing significantly higher risk.

Our training is designed for people without medical knowledge and avoids fear-based or alarmist messaging. It focuses on clarity where guidance can feel confusing and supports confidence rather than anxiety, helping people understand, recognise, and know when to seek help.

While delivery often takes place via organisations, the focus of the training is always the individual, whether attending for personal understanding, to support a partner, family member, colleague, or to improve professional awareness. The Herman Project works with employers and community organisations to extend prostate cancer awareness to people who may not otherwise engage with health information.

Our Aims & Objectives

Being the change we want to create.

The Herman Project exists to improve prostate cancer awareness and reduce the number of people affected by late diagnosis through clear, structured education.

Our aims are simple and intentional:

Reduce Missed Diagnosis

By improving understanding of risk, early indicators, and the limits of symptom-based reassurance, we aim to support earlier recognition and earlier action.

Force Change

By challenging silence, misconceptions, and delayed conversations, we aim to shift how prostate health is understood and discussed, making awareness a normal part of everyday health conversations.

Spread Awareness

By delivering consistent, evidence-informed education through workplaces, and communities, we aim to extend awareness beyond individuals to families, networks, and wider society.
